Revenue Scotland to launch upgrade to Scottish Electronic Tax System

Elaine Lorimer, Chief Executive of Revenue Scotland provides an update on the upgrade to the Scottish Electronic Tax System planned for July.

Next month we will be upgrading our online tax collection system, or SETS (Scottish Electronic Tax System). The changes introduced by the upgrade will affect how users file Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) returns whilst bringing benefits in the process. 

Those involved in the process of making an LBTT return should note that prior to launch, a period of downtime will be required to allow Revenue Scotland to migrate data and conduct testing. Currently, we expect to switch off the old system at 4pm on Thursday 18 July. Checks and testing will take place over the weekend and in the early part of week beginning 22 July before the new system is planned to go live at midday on Wednesday 24 July.

Throughout the design process our team have carried out stakeholder engagement and user research and I would like to thank members of the Law Society for your feedback and contributions. Gaining invaluable feedback to inform system design is at the heart of our commitment to delivering an improved service to all users.

Current SETS users will be able to access the new system using their current usernames but will be required to set up a new password. Users will also be required to read and sign up to the terms and conditions of the new service. A copy of the new terms and conditions will be added to the website and circulated to current SETS users prior to launch of the new system.

We plan to run a series of webinars in the two weeks prior to the launch of the new system to provide sight of the new system and an explanation of key functionality and changes. We will share details of these sessions with current SETS users soon. 

On launch of the new system, and to reflect the changes, we will update the relevant pages of the Revenue Scotland website and publish instructional videos on YouTube.
