St Andrew’s Day dinner and ceilidh

12th November 2016

St Andrew’s Day dinner and ceilidh

We held our flagship London St Andrew's event on Friday 11 November and were delighted so many of our members could attend. Thanks also to our corporate sponsors - Harper MacLeod, Scottish Development International, Dentons and Titlesolv.

The evening was designed to unite the London and Scottish legal markets and was an opportunity to promote a positive position regarding business with Europe. We were also fundraising for our Lawscot Foundation. The foundation helps academically talented students from less advantaged backgrounds in Scotland through their legal education journey. It will offer financial assistance, mentoring and other support to students during the law degree (LLB) stage, right through the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. Any support members can offer is much appreciated.

Musically, we had a real treat for everyone. On arrival, guests heard the haunting strains of the clàrsach, played by Fraya Thomsen, one of the best clàrsach players of her generation and now an award-winning composer.

Following dinner, Lord Hodge, Scottish lawyer and Justice of the Supreme Court, spoke about opportunities for the legal profession and the need to adapt in challenging times in order to be successful. Finally, guests were entertained by Licence to Ceilidh: London's top ceilidh band.
