Suspected email scam targeting solicitor firms
What's the scam?
We are aware of a potential scam whereby solicitor firms are receiving emails from members of the public looking for solicitor assistance in purchasing a property and asking firms to open links to a 'dropbox' account.
What should you do?
We'd recommend you and your colleagues read our cybersecurity guide which includes tips for individuals on what to think about before opening emails and attachments.
If you suspect a fraud, or other internet crime, remember to report it on the Action Fraud website.
Where a fraud or scam has actually taken place, it should be reported directly to Police Scotland.
Fraud and scam alerts
We regularly issue alerts to members and the public in response to threats to the profession. We also raise awareness of any potential scams involving fake solicitors or firms.
