Tribute to former Law Society President Norman Stewart
Susan Murray, President of the Law Society of Scotland, has paid tribute to Norman Stewart, President of the Society in 1985/86.
A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Norman practised as a solicitor in Elgin for most of his career. He joined Allan, Black & McCaskie in 1959 and was made partner in 1961. He remained with the firm throughout his career, latterly as a consultant, until 1999.
Susan Murray said: “We were very saddened to learn of the death of former Law Society of Scotland President Norman Stewart.
“As president of the Society in the mid-80s, Norman was a strong advocate for the profession and the importance of the role of solicitors in serving society and responding to public need.
“Norman was proud to be a Scottish solicitor and was greatly involved in the Society’s work through its committees and as a Council member representing solicitors in the Highland and Islands and Moray area. He was also deeply rooted within his local community and will be very much missed by many. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
