Child media privacy rises to age 18
Changes to the rules around press identification of children in criminal court cases came into force today (1 September).
Until now, members of the press were prohibited from identifying children aged under 16 who are involved in such court proceedings, whether as a victim, witness or accused.
Under the new rules, the age restrictions are increased to apply to children aged under 18.
As is currently the case, the court will still be able to lift any reporting restrictions if it considers this to be in the public interest.
