Police reviewing weaknesses in CCTV evidence processes
Police Scotland is looking at its processes for delivering CCTV evidence to court after a review identified process failings leading to court postponements, the Herald reports today.
The disclosure follows a series of cases around the country where failure to deliver evidence to court on time has caused cases to be adjourned, and a risk of the prosecution failing.
The national force is said to be facing a "challenge" to identify and deliver relevant images due to the procedures adopted, while also recognising that much court time could be saved if evidence was available to be disclosed earlier to the defence.
It is also recognised that many CCTV systems require to be upgraded to deliver images of sufficient quality, which would require substantial investment.
