Praise for officer's karaoke turn after pub trouble
A community police officer has won praise after he performed a karaoke number in a Glasgow bar as his colleagues dealt with a disturbance outside the premises.
Sergeant Jon Harris was part of a 10 strong team called to the Waterloo Bar after a man was ejected for throwing a drink over his girlfriend and then repeatedly tried to re-enter the bar.
While other officers took statements and reviewed CCTV footage outside, Sergeant Harris decided that taking the microphone would be the best way to calm the situation inside the bar.
Huge cheers greeted his performance of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive", which includes the lines "Come on now go, walk out the door, just turn around now, you're not welcome any more."
One customer said: "Police do get a bad rep but the ones round here are really friendly. This guy got a huge round of applause at the end – his rendition wasn't too bad to be fair."
Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland, area commander for the city centre, commented: "Sergeant Jon took to the stage, which helped to defuse any simmering tensions in the pub. I was pleased to see that once the incident had been professionally concluded, my officers were able to share a lighter moment with those who remained in the pub."
