Scots out to defend Law Rugby World Cup
Whatever the fortunes of the national side in the Rugby World Cup, which opens this week, Scotland's rugby playing lawyers have a world title of their own to defend in a tournament being held to coincide with the headline event.
The Law Rugby World Cup 2015 takes place at Richmond Athletic Ground, the home of London Scottish RFC, between 14 and 16 October 2015. This is the third time the competition has been staged, and the Law Society of Scotland RFC are the current undefeated champions, having won the inaugural tournament in Paris 2007 before successfully defending it in Edinburgh 2009.
This time the Law Societies of England, Scotland, Cayman Islands, Australia, France, Italy, New Zealand and Ireland are all sending teams. The event opens with a gala reception at The Law Society of England & Wales in Chancery Lane on Wednesday 14 October, followed by two full days of competitive rugby.
Established for nearly 30 years, the LSS RFC have an active playing and social scene, with four or five games of XV rugby a season and a full sevens programme during the summer. The club plays against other professional teams including the Surveyors RFC, the Surgeons RFC and the student law society teams from around Scotland. The team is made up of practising solicitors and students studying Scots law at university. The social calendar culminates in the annual Burns Supper.
This year the team has received sponsorship from CMS Cameron McKenna.
