Smith Commission invites public to send in views
Members of the public have been invited to send in their individual views on the future of Scottish devolution to the Commission charged with achieving cross-party agreement in the wake of the independence referendum.
The Smith Commission, under Lord Smith of Kelvin, has already approached campaign and community groups, civic society organisations and institutions, but now also wants to hear directly from individuals with a view.
The deadline for responding is 5 pm on 31 October. Submissions can be emailed to haveyoursay@smith-commission.scot; sent by mail to The Smith Commission, 7th Floor, 144 Morrison Street, Edinburgh EH3 8EX, or delivered via a dedicated "haveyoursay" page on the Smith Commission website, from Monday 13 October.
It is Lord Smith’s intention to conduct the Commission’s work transparently and submissions will be published on the Commission’s website shortly after the deadline (in line with the policy on handling written submissions).
The website will soon also include an overview of the powers that are already devolved; at time of writing it carries a simple summary list.
There are also guidelines to help ensure that the content of submissions received best assists the Commission in meeting its terms of reference.
