Strathclyde academic joins Commission homicide project
A legal academic from the University of Strathclyde is to work with the Scottish Law Commission as it develops new proposals on the law of homicide.
Dr Claire McDiarmid will join the homicide team at the Commission for several months as it develops a discussion paper on the mental element of homicide, as part of its current 10th Programme of Law Reform.
The arrangement takes place under the memorandum of understanding between the Scottish Law Commission and the Scottish law schools agreed in 2016, which has previously seen Dr John MacLeod, then of the University of Glasgow, prepare a research paper on enforcement of heritable securities, another Commission project.
Welcoming Dr McDiarmid, Commission chairman Lord Pentland commented: “Claire is a distinguished scholar who has written extensively on the Scots law of homicide. We are delighted that she has agreed to assist us. I have no doubt that she will make a substantial contribution to our work. Claire’s work at the Commission is another example of the success of the memorandum of understanding between the Commission and the Scottish law schools. This facilitates collaborative working between the Commission and the academic community, and assists academic colleagues in demonstrating that their work has practical impact.”
