Sarah-Jane Macdonald

Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie 

SJ is a Partner at Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie who specialises in contentious trusts and estates. She regularly works with trustees, executors and beneficiaries when issues arise in the process of estate or trust administration with a view to resolving disputes. Her expertise in trust law in particular has meant she has been involved in court actions for trustee removals, appointments, seeking additional powers, variation of purposes and directions.

As the author of a “A Practical Guide to Legal Rights in Scotland” she also regularly advises on issues relating to legal rights.

SJ is a Law Society of Scotland Accredited Specialist in Trust Law, and is well regarded in the Legal 500 having been ranked as a Next Generation Partner since 2024.

SJ is also the Deputy Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Scotland and a Committee Member on STEP’s Global Steering Interest Group for Contentious Trusts & Probate. SJ gained both her STEP Diploma and the Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes with Distinction and won the STEP Worldwide Excellence Award in Trusts Law & Practice in 2015.
