Adoption & Fostering Alliance relaunches with new name
Adoption and Fostering Alliance Scotland (AFA Scotland) has from today officially become the Association for Fostering, Kinship and Adoption Scotland (AFKA Scotland).
AFKA Scotland says its new name more accurately reflects its work, and its mission to promote and facilitate evidence-informed best practice through advising, training, and influencing practitioners and policymakers, and supporting them to improve outcomes for children and families.
The change comes after several months of internal discussion, as well as consultation with AFKA Scotland’s members, which include all 32 local authorities in Scotland as well as several voluntary and independent adoption and fostering agencies and individual members.
Executive director Angie Gillies explained: "Our organisation has always responded to the changing landscape of care in Scotland and our name must reflect how our practice has developed over the last six years.
"AFKA Scotland will continue to respond to our members and to the voice of people with care experience. We wholeheartedly embrace The Promise and its aspirations for every child’s right to a good childhood, supporting families and the workforce to provide care, which is loving, safe and secure. We will support implementation of The Promise and promote evidence-informed best practice and policy through collaborative research."
As part of this change, AFKA Scotland has officially launched its new website, afkascotland.org.
