Advocate joins three-day Arctic charity trek
A member of the Faculty of Advocates is joining a three-day trek in the Arctic on his latest adventure in aid of a children's charity.
In 2018 Robert Sutherland climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, raising almost £5,500 for Children 1st, and the charity will again be the beneficiary of his new venture.
The trek begins in Rovaniemi, Finland – the official home of Santa Claus – before heading further north.
The first day’s walk is 28km, before the group pitches its tents on a frozen lake.
Mr Sutherland commented: "The only things that are guaranteed are plenty of fresh air and exercise.
"We don’t know what the weather conditions will be like, except that it will be very cold. Daytime temperatures are likely to be below -12C, and night-time temperatures combined with wind chill could make it feel between -30C and -40C. If we are lucky and the sky is clear, there may be a chance to see the northern lights. Days two and three take us further into the Arctic Circle, with some hilly forest terrain before the final stretch.”
