Anderson Strathern in new Glasgow merger
Glasgow legal practice Hardy Macphail has merged with Anderson Strathern, it was announced today.
Founded in 1998, Hardy Macphail, which has three partners and an overall headcount of 10, specialises in litigation, private client, commercial property and residential conveyancing, and operates across Glasgow, the west of Scotland, the central belt and Fife. The merger will also help Anderson Strathern expand its SME base.

In 2016 it agreed mergers with Glasgow-based Jeffrey Aitken and Edinburgh-based ADLP. Managing partner Murray McCall commented: “Hardy Macphail has built an excellent reputation in the market with a loyal client base and the deal meets our strategic objective of bolting on profitable practices which help us to expand our SME base. It’s also noteworthy that the team provide a premier service for generations of families across Scotland and this is a great fit with our sector-leading private client offering.”
Julie Macphail, who becomes a director at Anderson Strathern, said: “The partners and I at Hardy Macphail are delighted to be joining Anderson Strathern who share our commitment to providing a high quality service and we see this as an opportunity to offer an enhanced range of services to our clients."
In March, the firm’s Brexit Group released its white paper - Taking the temperature of Scottish business pre-Brexit - which revealed that many of Scotland’s companies, particularly SMEs, had made little or no plan for Brexit, while a majority of respondents were concerned about the loss of EU staff. The firm’s Brexit Group is actively advising both SMEs and larger organisations as they prepare for a range of Brexit outcomes.
In June, Anderson Strathern was selected as the first Scottish legal firm by the Meritas global network which has a membership of over 180 law firms from over 90 countries worldwide.
