Anwar named as Sheriff Principal of South Strathclyde
Sheriff Aisha Anwar has been appointed as Sheriff Principal of South Strathclyde, Dumfries & Galloway, with effect from 1 April 2020.
Currently a designated family law and commercial law sheriff at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Anwar was appointed as a part-time sheriff in 2011 and a full time sheriff in 2014. She was admitted as a solicitor in 2000 and practised with Maclay Murray & Spens, becoming an associate in 2003 and a partner in 2009.
She co-authored the Civil Bench Book for Sheriffs on behalf of the Judicial Institute and was appointed to the Scottish Courts & Tribunal Service Board in 2018.
She succeeds Sheriff Principal Ian Abercrombie QC, who is retiring. She has been appointed by the Queen on the recommendation of the First Minister, based on a report by the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.
