CMS and Aberdeen Law Project team up for jobseekers
Law firm CMS is supporting the Aberdeen Law Project ("ALP") in a new initiative aimed at helping low-income jobseekers dress for success when they attend interviews.
The "OutFit Like" scheme will provide donated business clothing which can be used by people in the north east who are looking for work but unable to afford suitable dress for a job interview. Delivered by ALP in partnership with Aberdeen Cyrenians, the scheme also provides jobseekers with workshops on CV writing and interview skills.
CMS's Aberdeen office is sponsoring the scheme to help the team meet ongoing operational costs including clothing cleaning expenses. Along with University of Aberdeen School of Law and two other legal firms, CMS is also donating clothes.
Judith Aldersey-Williams, an Aberdeen-based partner at CMS, commented: "OutFit Like is a fantastic initiative which will have a positive impact on many lower income jobseekers as well as employers and the wider community.
"Having access to smart clothing is essential in helping ensure job applicants feel confident and perform to their potential when attending interviews."
Helena Siebenrock, student director at ALP, commented: “Research suggests that it only takes a few seconds for an employer to form an impression about an interviewee. It’s not always fair, but having access to the right clothes can be the difference between making a good impression or a bad one. We hope OutFit Like will change that and help more people get back into the workplace."
