Edinburgh court business affected by mourning events
Much court business in Edinburgh today and tomorrow will be relocated or conducted virtually due to restricted access to the Royal Mile area because of mourning events for HM The Queen.
Scottish Courts & Tribunals Service has announced that High Court trials in Edinburgh will be adjourned or relocated to courts outwith the city where possible. Criminal appeals will be heard virtually. Court of Session business, where possible, will be heard virtually.
At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, which may also be affected by travel disruption, decisions will be taken on individual trials proceeding, with procedural matters being dealt with administratively where possible. Civil cases and the Sheriff Appeal Court will proceed virtually where possible.
Similarly there will be no in-person SCTS tribunal hearings in George House, but virtual hearings and administrative work will continue.
Elsewhere, courts and tribunals will continue with the majority of scheduled business, with sheriff summary and JP trials being limited due to availability of police witnesses.
All parliamentary business at Holyrood has been suspended as a mark of respect. There will be no public access to the Scottish Parliament building until further notice.
Monday 19 September, the day of the state funeral, has been declared a public holiday.
