EYBA Conference, Macfadyen Lecture now virus calloffs
The European Young Bar Association's conference, due to be hosted by the Scottish Young Lawyers' Association in Glasgow next month, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak – as has the Scottish Council of Law Reporting's Macfadyen Lecture scheduled for 26 March.
The SYLA said that: "In light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Europe and globally, the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association and the EYBA board, after careful consideration and with a very heavy heart, must announce the cancellation of the EYBA Spring Conference 2020 in Glasgow.
"This was not an easy decision to make as a lot of work has gone in to making this an unforgettable event. However, we must act in the interests of our members and attendees and the risk is not one we consider worth taking.
"We are in discussions with our sponsors, speakers and venues to identify a suitable alternative date, likely early 2021. We will be contacting everyone who has bought a ticket over the next 24 hours to make the necessary arrangements."
The Macfadyen Lecture for 2020, on the subject "Climate Change and the Convention", has been rescheduled for Thursday 5 November. Those intending to attend have been advised they they will probably need to re-register. The lecture had been sold out.
