Fair treatment for abused women? Faculty stages public discussion
A High Court judge and a professor of feminist and queer studies are to hold a public discussion about how abused women are treated under the law in Scotland.
The issues in "Women who kill: does the criminal law give abused women protection or fair treatment?" will be explored by Lady Scott and Professor Sharon Cowan of Edinburgh University.
Among the topics to be covered are the reform of the law on diminished responsibility for women who have been abused, and the still-existing common law plea of provocation based on infidelity.
The free event, from 6pm on Thursday 28 November at the Laigh Hall, Parliament House, is part of a series by the UK Association of Women Judges to celebrate 100 Years of Women in Law.
