Finalists named for 2023 Scottish Legal Awards
Twelve individuals and 33 teams from 36 Scottish firms and companies have been selected as finalists in the 2023 Scottish Legal Awards.
The competition, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, received entries from over 60 organisations from across Scotland.
Four practices contest Firm of the Year: Digby Brown, MBM Commercial, Neilson, and Thompsons, while the Lawyer of the Year award also sees four solicitors shortlisted: Andy Sirel of JustRight Scotland, Elizabeth Rose of L&M Medilaw, Patrick McGuire of Thompsons, and Stuart Munro of Livingstone Brown.
Among the smaller firms named, Clarity Simplicity features in four categories and Berlow Rahman Hassan in two. Macnabs also features in two, including Family Law or Private Client Team of the Year, where its Family law team goes head to head with its Private Client team along with two other finalists.
In addition to the 14 categories announced, the awards dinner and ceremony on 29 September will see the presentation of Managing Partner of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award, both made at the judges' discretion.
Lorna Jack, chair of the judging panel and former CEO of the Law Society of Scotland, commented: "The purpose of the Scottish Legal Awards is to honour Scotland's leading legal teams, and individuals who work across a diverse profession which truly deserves recognition for some outstanding work. Working with colleagues on the judging panel, we have been impressed by the strength and depth of the profession. Entries have demonstrated excellence in a wide spectrum of activity during a year of historic cases and ongoing innovation to help clients.
"The fact that the finalists not only excelled in their respective fields over the year, but also won over the judges with their insightful and in-depth applications, should fill them with great pride."
