Glasgow Caledonian wins funding for journal and lecture
Glasgow Caledonian University is to launch an annual law journal and establish a Law & The Common Good Lecture for students and members of the Scottish legal profession.
The move comes after Law at GCU secured funding from The Clark Foundation for Legal Education.
The Journal for Law & The Common Good will be a student-led publication featuring innovative work from GCU students, and the annual lecture will feature a keynote speech from a social justice lawyer.
Both projects will look to build on the success of the university's award-winning law clinic, a student-led initiative that offers free legal advice to people who do not qualify for legal aid.
Seonaid Stevenson, solicitor and lecturer in law at GCU, commented: "The law journal will give students a fantastic opportunity to engage with contemporary issues and share their work with a wider audience.
"It will give students a chance to collaborate on a project across all year groups and to think critically about how lawyers and law students can use their skills for the common good.
"The lecture will also provide them with an opportunity to be inspired by, and learn from, lawyers working for the common good in our communities."
