Lady Paton given two year extension at Law Commission
Lady Paton has been reappointed as chair of the Scottish Law Commission for a further two years.
A judge of the Court of Session since 2000 and of the Inner House since 2007, Lady Paton was appointed chair of the Commission for a five year term from 1 January 2019. She will now continue to serve from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025.
The appointment is part-time, with 60% of Lady Paton’s time being spent on Commission business, and the remainder on her judicial functions. Lady Paton retains her judicial salary.
Welcoming the news, Lady Paton said that as lead commissioner on the Commission's current projects on homicide, and damages for personal injury, she hoped to finalise reports and draft bills during her two year extension.
She added: "As chair, I look forward to contributing to the Commission’s current level of achievement, and in particular to the Commission’s significant productivity, outreach, and usefulness."
