Scots criminal defence firm opens in London
Specialist Scottish criminal law firm MTM Defence Lawyers has opened a London office.
MTM, which also has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Falkirk, said the Chancery Lane base would help it service a growing caseload south of the border – it currently derives around 10% of its revenue from London-based legal business, a figure that is rising.
London-based clients and law firms are referring private clients and international clients facing criminal law charges in the Scottish courts to MTM. They typically involve high net worth private individuals, international organisations, companies and professionals.
Growth is also being driven by complex regulatory cases where large companies and individuals are the subject of criminal law charges that have the potential to be highly damaging to individual reputations and brands if not handled correctly.
MTM has also received a tier 1 accreditation in The Legal 500 UK 2020 in the category "crime – general", and tier 2 in "crime – fraud" for its work in fraud cases.
Director Neil Hay commented: "The firm is seeing more and more complex cases where criminal charges are brought against people that can have major impacts on personal and professional lives in cases that often involve family law issues, as well as property and cross-border issues. Many of these cases are often referred to us by top Scottish law firms and top London law firms, although we also receive a high volume of direct instructions from private individuals.”
