Scots law firms targeted with bogus conveyancing emails: Society
An alert over potentially malicious emails supposedly from a conveyancing practice but which may contain harmful malware, has been issued to Scottish legal firms by the Law Society of Scotland.
The Society has become aware of messages being sent from a “Linda McNair Conveyancer PLS Connect” purporting to relate to a property transaction.
Philip Yelland, the Society's executive director of regulation, said the emails contained attachments made to appear like ones normally used in conveyancing, but there was a concern that these attachments might contain harmful malware if opened.
There were similar reports of suspicious emails from the same source in May 2016, and it appears that the threat has now returned.
"If you receive suspicious emails from a 'Linda McNair' or indeed any suspicious emails, do not open any attachments or click on links. There is information about how to report fraud and internet crime available on our website", Mr Yelland states in his alert.
