Scottish house prices forge ahead in latest figures
House prices in Scotland rose faster in the year to October 2020 than across the UK as a whole, according to the latest figures reported by Registers of Scotland.
Provisional statistics show a Scottish average of £163,248, up 6.0% on October 2019 and 1.4% on September 2020.
The UK average house price was £245,443, up 5.4% on October 2019 and 0.7% on the previous month.
Average price increases were recorded in 26 of the 32 local authority areas, when compared with the previous year. The largest increase across mainland Scotland was in South Ayrshire (11.0%), followed by East Ayrshire (6.9%), Glasgow City (6.8%) and Renfrewshire (6.7%). The largest decrease (5.1%) was recorded in City of Aberdeen, followed by Aberdeenshire (1.6%).
The volume of residential sales in Scotland in August 2020 was 6,688, down 33.0% on the original provisional estimate for August 2019. This compares with a decrease of 32.4% in England, 47.7% in Wales, and 22.9% for the nearest quarterly figure in Northern Ireland.
Accountable officer Janet Egdell commented: "This is the largest annual increase in Scottish house prices since February 2018."
