SEMLA announces "Unconscious Bias" event
SEMLA, the Scottish Ethnic Minorities Lawyers' Association, has announced an event on the effect of unconscious bias as it seeks to improve diversity in the legal profession.
SEMLA is combining with the Scottish Discrimination Law Association and MacRoberts LLP to hold the morning event, on Friday 27 March in MacRoberts' offices at Capella, 60 York Street, Glasgow G2 8JX.
Aimed specifically at lawyers, legal academics and employees of equality or professional bodies, it will seek an understanding of:
- the current statistical evidence around professional services, focusing on membership of the legal profession;
- the principles of unconscious bias and how it influences behaviours and decision making at work;
- the challenges of unconscious bias in professional services, including entrance into a profession; and progression within that profession and reaching senior management/partnership level.
Interactive workshops will tackle unconscious bias in professional services, focusing on mindset and process-driven solutions to increasing ethnic and gender diversity. Two hours' verifiable CPD is offered.
The event is free, but a donation is recommended of £20 per delegate, to be paid on the day, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
