SEMLA to co-host ethnic diversity discussion
A virtual event on how to improve opportunities for ethnic minorities in the legal profession is to be co-hosted next week by SEMLA (the Scottish Ethnic Minorities Lawyers' Association) and NatWest Group.
Titled "Less talk, more action: what are we doing to improve ethnic diversity in the legal profession?", the discussion will focus on the solutions that are being used – or can be used – to improve opportunities for ethnic minorities in the legal profession in Scotland.
It takes place on Wednesday 18 August 2021 between 9.30 and 11am.
The keynote speaker will be Ash Denham MSP, Minister for Community Safety, who is responsible for the legal profession. Also taking part are:
- Teresa Rossetti, legal counsel at and head of the Multi-Cultural Network for NatWest Group;
- Rupa Mooker, director of People & Development at MacRoberts LLP and member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Equality & Diversity committee;
- Tatora Mukushi, solicitor and chair of the Law Society of Scotland’s Racial Inclusion Group;
- Naeema Sajid, solicitor, co-founder of SEMLA and owner of Diversity+.
The event will be chaired by Usman Tariq, advocate.
