Sentencing Council publishes victim services web page
A new, comprehensive, information page for victims of crime and their families has been published by the Scottish Sentencing Council, providing practical details on victims’ rights and the services available across the justice sector.
The Council's remit is to promote consistency in, and greater public understanding of, sentencing and the sentencing process. Victims’ rights as such are outwith the Council’s remit, but it recognises the need of victims of crime and their families for help, information, and support, as a key part of ensuring fairness in the justice system.
Its new page carries links to the Victims' Code for Scotland, and to information about support for young victims of crime, on verdicts and sentences, on victim statements that can describe their experience to the court sentencing the offender, on victim notification schemes, and on criminal injuries compensation.
