Six associate promotions at BTO

2nd April 2020 | careers

BTO Solicitors has announced six April promotions, comprising four new senior associates and two associates.

Glasgow based Emma Barclay, who joined BTO as a trainee in 2012, has become a senior associate in the firm’s Corporate team. She has been involved in many of the firm’s multi-million-pound deals in a range of sectors, including food and drink, leisure and hospitality and real estate. She is also experienced in banking and finance transactions and business restructuring.

Debbie Reekie, an accredited specialist in family law and a solicitor advocate, has been promoted to senior associate in the Families & Individuals team in the firm’s Edinburgh office. She is also accredited as a mediator, and is a trained collaborative lawyer.

Two new senior associates have been named in BTO’s Insurance group, Eileen Sherry and Mark Hastings, along with newly promoted associate Rhona McKerracher, all of whom are based in Glasgow. Ms Sherry is experienced in defending high value claims with international elements arising from allegedly defective products, and also pursues substantial recoveries for insurer clients following events including major floods and contaminated food. Mr Hastings, a solicitor advocate, and his colleague Ms McKerracher, focus on large loss personal injury work, arising from incidents which have caused either fatalities or catastrophic injuries.

Edinburgh based Jamie Robb, who becomes an associate in the firm’s Professional Liability team, handles professional liability claims on behalf of solicitors, acting through the Law Society of Scotland's professional indemnity insurers, and also regularly represents surveyors, architects, engineers and other construction professionals.

David Gibson, BTO’s Chairman, said:

“Congratulations to all concerned for these well-deserved promotions.  We are delighted to share some good news at this testing time and I know that my newly promoted colleagues will play an instrumental role in the development of our firm over the coming years.”
