Solicitor appointed to Scottish Sentencing Council
Joanne McMillan has been appointed as the solicitor member of the Scottish Sentencing Council.
Ms McMillan has run her own firm, CMC Law, in Glasgow since July 2020, dealing in both criminal and civil law, after working for 10 years with Turnbull McCarron solicitors. She has a particular interest in sentencing and the parole process. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Glasgow Bar Association.
Her appointment to the Council, for a five year term until May 2028, was made by the Lord Justice General, Lord Carloway.
Chair of the Council, Lady Dorrian, the Lord Justice Clerk, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Joanne to the Scottish Sentencing Council as our new solicitor member.
“Her wealth of experience in private practice will be of great benefit to the Council as we continue to develop sentencing guidelines on a wide range of offences such as domestic abuse, rape, and sexual offences, as well as other topics such as sentence discounting.
“I wish Joanne well in her new role and look forward to working with her during her tenure with the Council.”
