SYLA calls for nominations as AGM set for 26 May
The Scottish Young Lawyers' Association will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday 26 May 2022 at 6.30pm. The meeting will be held both in-person (in Edinburgh, at Shepherd and Wedderburn’s offices) and virtually via Zoom.
All SYLA members are welcome to attend. However, to allow for distribution of Zoom details SYLA asks all attendees to sign up in advance via Eventbrite.
During the AGM the members will elect a new committee for 2022-23. Members wishing to stand for election should submit an application by way of a video to mail@syla.co.uk by 20 May 2022, along with completed nomination form. Those applying for non-executive positions should submit a video of no longer than 30 seconds. Those applying for executive positions should submit a video of no longer than 60 seconds.
Applications received after 6pm on 20 May will not be able to be processed timeously and will not be accepted. Your video should explain who you are, why you wish to join the committee and what you will bring to the association. The video should be accompanied by the following information:
- full name;
- stage of career (e.g. student, trainee, qualified solicitor);
- firm or organisation;
- location (city or council area);
- position you wish to apply for.
Candidates may stand for any of the following positions:
- non-executive committee member (seven positions available);
- secretary;
- treasurer;
- Vice President;
- President (candidate must have completed a full year on the committee to be eligible).
The videos will be shown during the AGM, then a vote will be cast.
The Association welcomes members from all areas of Scotland, from any background and at any level (from student to 10 years' PQE, including advocates). The committee meets monthly (between September and May), though is presently conducting all meetings virtually. It is committed to representing junior lawyers all over Scotland and is seeking motivated individuals who want to facilitate change.
