Thorntons' charity wills month raises £75,000

4th February 2020 | Charities

Legal firm Thorntons' annual wills-related charity campaign raised a record £75,000 last year, the firm revealed today.

Now in its 23rd year, Thorntons’ Charity Wills month takes place across its offices in Fife, Dundee, Perth, Angus and, for the first time in 2019, Edinburgh. The total, donated to Cash for Kids, was £13,000 up on the previous year and to date the campaign has raised more than £450,000 for the charity.

The initiative ran throughout the month of September, during which, for any wills written, the firm did not charge a fee but asked clients to make an equivalent donation to Cash for Kids.

Murray Etherington, partner at Thorntons, commented: “We’ve been delighted with the generosity of clients who took this opportunity to put their affairs in order and support local causes at the same time.

“It’s fantastic to see our Charity Wills initiative gain momentum every year, with the latest campaign marking a milestone fundraising total for the firm. The beneficiaries, linked to Radio Tay and Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, allow us to support groups and individuals within the communities in which our offices are situated.”

Supported causes included purchasing a specialist bed for a six year old Perth girl who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy, ASD and requires 24-hour supervision; an initiative which supports 12-18 year olds with mental health issues in Fife; and the purchase of specialist equipment for children with autism and a hydrotherapy pool for children with cerebral palsy.

Victoria Hendry, Cash for Kids Charity Manager, said: “The success of Charity Wills over the past few years has been incredible. The impact that the results have from this campaign to children’s lives across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife & Falkirk is just amazing.”
