Three in four Scots LLB applicants are women: new data
More than three times as many women as men are now applying to study law in Scotland, according to data collated from a freedom of information request.
Female applicants in Scotland reached 17,000 in 2022, compared to just 5,000 men. The figure for men shows a 20% decline since 2021, when there were 6,600 male applicants.
Across the UK, two thirds of applicants for law courses are female, with more than 100,000 in 2022 (a rise of 13% in the past three years), compared to 50,000 male applicants.
The data were sourced from UCAS and collated by London criminal defence solicitors Lawtons.
Current Law Society of Scotland figures show that around two thirds of newly admitted members each year are female.
