Tim Eicke QC to deliver James Wood Lecture
The Glasgow School of Law’s 33rd annual James Wood Lecture will be delivered by Tim Eicke QC, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights on the topic ‘Democracy as a European (Convention) Value’.
The lecture will take place on Thursday 24 October at 5.30pm and will be held in the School’s Senate Room, Main Building.
Tim Eicke, a graduate of the universities of Passau and Dundee, practised as a barrister in London before being appointed as the UK’s judge at the European Court of Human Rights in 2016, having been appointed a QC in 2011. He is the co-author of Human Rights Damages (2001).
The James Wood Lecture is the principal public lecture hosted annually by the University of Glasgow School of Law, having first been delivered by Lord Fraser of Tullybelton in 1987.
Recent James Wood lecturers have included Eleanor Sharpston QC, Professor Dame Hazel Genn, Lord Sumption and Ian Forrester QC. It is supported by the James Wood Bequest Fund.
